notable skills: Being half a faerie, Belle has magical abilities similar to that of her mother. She has the ability to heal even the greatest of injuries while also being able to use her magic for offensive and defensive reasons. Besides her magical abilities, the bookworm is adept at horseback riding and capable of riding for long periods without getting tired.

Belle Veilleux was born in the Montmartre District of Paris, France on December 26, 1723, to Maurice Veilleux, a French inventor, and Adrienne, a faerie noblewoman of the Seelie Court. From her mother’s first marriage, Belle had two older full-blooded faerie brothers, Nieven and Ruvaen, both born in the mid to late 15th century. On her mother’s side, the young half-faerie hailed from an ancient and noble house that had been allies of the king and queen of the Seelie Court for generations. Despite only being half-faerie, Adrienne decided to hold her young daughter to the same standards she held her sons three centuries earlier. The woman wanted to have her daughter homeschooled by a friend of hers, but before that could happen, the idyllic life the family had was interrupted. Belle’s mother disappeared late one evening and with her the memories of a loving mother and wife. Believing her mother to be dead, the family of two packed up their belongings and moved to the village of Villeneuve, a three-day ride from Paris.Once the family settled in the village, Maurice tried to have his daughter enrolled in the local school, but the headmaster denied his request, stating that only boys could attend. Disheartened but not discouraged, the girl’s father contacted the village’s chaplain who promised to tutor the girl in theology and Latin. During one of their sessions, the chaplain saw the passion Belle had for music and decided to give her one-hour bi-weekly violin lessons in exchange for a meal each Friday night. As the girl grew older, the friends she had in the village started to dwindle, mostly because the villagers started to label her as peculiar, whispering behind her back when they thought she wasn't listening. However, one friend of hers stayed steadfast over the years, Marius Jullien, the son of the local blacksmith. After Marius’ classes, Belle spent time with the boy, learning alongside him as he did his homework.Soon years passed, and the two friends grew to adulthood, Marius leaving the village at eighteen to join the French Royal Army. Later that same year in 1740, Belle lost her father after a lengthy bout of influenza. Alone and unable to survive on the small farm that the family had, the bookworm did what she promised herself she would never do. She married Gaston LeGume, a former Captain in the French Army. Belle would have rather married Marius, they could have had a marriage full of joy and love, but instead, she chose the worst decision imaginable. At the beginning of her marriage, Belle thought she judged Gaston too harshly but then the man showed his true colors after a few months of marriage. He started to belittle the young woman out in public for not listening to his demands. However, at home, the man became more ruthless, having sex with the woman whenever he wanted and there was nothing she could do to stop him. Six months into her marriage, Belle lost the child she so desperately wanted but was somewhat relieved that they wouldn’t have to grow up with Gaston as a father.

After hearing that the woman lost his child, the hunter became more desperate for a child, wanting to carry on his family name. Close to six months later when Gaston was at the tavern, named in his honor, Belle left in the middle of the night, she escaped the house, coming across the Beast’s castle in the middle of the woods. After being caught trespassing inside, the cursed man made the bookworm his prisoner, but she never became his inferior. Her days of being pushed around were over. On the first night of her stay, the woman's curiosity got the better of her and she broke into the prince's bedroom. During her self-guided tour, Belle almost touched the enchanted rose on the table only for her air to become restricted and be lifted in the air. The Beast was going to make good on his promise and kill her, but after what seemed like hours, the woman was released. Afterward, she fled into the woods with only the clothes on her back and Philippe. However, after coming across a pack of wolves and being rescued by the Beast, who was injured, Belle took him back to the castle, not wanting to become a murderer. It took a while for Belle to forget what the cursed man had done, but over time the pair became friends. For months, the woman avoided her feelings for the Beast, but she was afraid of getting her heart broken.During one of their many trips to the library, the Beast showed the woman a gift from the enchantress, a book that transports readers wherever they want. Belle used the book to visit her childhood home in Paris, seeing the place where her family was last whole. After returning home, Mrs. Potts suggested the idea of a dance to the Beast to boost the bookworm’s spirits. That weekend, the two friends shared a dance with the prince showing Belle an enchanted mirror, where she discovered that her mother was being held by Monsieur D'Arque at the nearby asylum. Once the prince released her, the woman raced to the asylum to track down her mother. Belle traveled through the woods only to have the prince following from a distance to make sure she was safe. Once at the asylum, the bookworm was captured by D’Arque who sought to repress the magic within her via brutal treatments. The man left the young half-faerie drugged and strapped to a table until she was freed from her restraints through unknown magical means and made her way through the building, freeing any patients she came across, both magical and normal. On the second floor of the building, the woman came across her mother, who after years of torment seemed to have aged twenty years. Together, the two faeries worked to free the patients, before returning to Villeneuve to get her mother help. Once there, Gaston stole the magic mirror from Belle and locked the two women inside a carriage before leaving for the castle. After the women escaped, they returned to the castle to try and stop Gaston from killing the Beast. However, before Belle could stop her husband, he mortally wounds the Beast, leaving his wife to cry over his dying body. While Belle was distracted, Gaston pointed a gun in her direction, claiming that he will kill her if he cannot have her. Just as he went to pull the trigger, Adrienne grabbed Gaston, tying him up with ropes of light as the young woman declared her for the Beast. Even though she was a second too late, it was her love for him that broke the curse on the Beast and his servants, returning them all to their original states. After the curse was broken, Belle watched in muted horror as the Beast, now known as Adam, killed Gaston by suffocating him with his abilities. Once her husband lay dead, Belle was made aware of her heritage by her mother who told her that she was a half-faerie, similar to Adam. It was that same man who promised to teach her everything he learned from his mother, a faerie of the Seelie Court. The prince proposed to the bookworm in the castle gardens after a romantic dinner. The weeks following were a whirlwind of events as the man was crowned the king of France and their relationship was made public.Adam’s relationship with Belle was the least of the people’s issues when the knowledge of Les Charmantes or magical beings was made public. The people of Villeneuve were welcoming to the thought of Les Charmantes, but France as a whole was an issue. Les Charmantes started to appear at the king’s castle, most wanting revenge for what occurred at the hands of his father. However, after discovering that their king was one of them, they started turning their attention elsewhere. Amid all the tension, the couple was married in a quiet ceremony, holding off on Belle’s coronation until the tension died down. However, tensions did not die down and soon the country broke out into a full-scale civil war, with humans on one side, Les Charmantes on the side, and the two royals caught in the middle. Belle and Adam made sure to keep the knowledge of their heritage a secret, afraid of making matters worse than they already are.
